Unique facilities are used in Fracture Control Program sponsored research.

ADVANCED MATERIALS TESTING AND EVALUATION LABORATORY (AMTEL)

This laboratory is an open user facility administered by the Mechanical Science and Engineering Department.

HIGH TEMPERATURE MATERIALS LABORATORY (HTML)

This laboratory is equipped with the following mechanical testing equipment:

1    1.4 GPa capability pressure intensifier with pressure vessels (built 1992)

1    90 kN uniaxial MTS servohydraulic frame with SoMat 1000 Data Acquisition System, temperature capabilities up to 2000°C

1    100 kN uniaxial ATS screw driven creep-fatigue frame with SoMat 1100 Creep-Fatigue Data Acquisition System, temperature capabilities up to 2000°C

2    100 kN uniaxial Instron servohydraulic frame with 8500 controls, temperature capabilities up to 2000°C

2    2.5 kW Lepel induction heaters

1    15 kW Lepel induction heater

2    Remote (infrared temperature) measurement units

8     High temperature extensometers

2    Pressure Transducers (up to 200,000 psi capability)

FREDERICK SEITZ MATERIALS RESEARCH LABORATORY (MRL) CENTRAL RESEARCH FACILITIES

The MRL Central Research Facilities provide a complete suite of materials characterization instrumentation (electron, optical, and scanning probe microscopy; surface analytical equipment; laser and optical spectroscopy; and x-ray analysis) and a wide range of deposition, crystal growth, nanofabrication and device processing facilities.
